WEST END LIVE! This weekend I have spent a very enjoyable weekend helping out at West End Live in Trafalgar Square. Two days of highlights from all of London’s biggest theatre shows including Billy Elliot, Chicago, We will rock you, and even brand new shows like Shrek the musical, Ghost the musical and Lend me a Tenor.
Had a great weekend helping out backstage and on the information stand. All the staff were really friendly and fun to work with. Was very impressed with Andrew Cheeseman Productions. The event was so professionally managed in association with SOLT (The Society of London Theatre), Mastercard and City of Westminster.
The highlights that I really enjoyed were Ghost the musical, Free Run, Lend me a Tenor, and Some Like it Hip Hop!
Before the event, I heard a lot about Ghost the musical but hadn’t really thought about seeing it. However after seeing the trailer and seeing the cast perform this weekend, I am definitely getting tickets! If you haven’t already seen it, check out this trailer:
There was also a lot of buzz from the audience for Lend me a Tenor which is at Gielgud Theatre (www.tenorthemusical.co.uk), War Horse at New London Theatre (www.warhorse.nationaltheatre.org.uk) and the new Shrek the musical at Theatre Royal Drury Lane (www.shrekthemusical.co.uk).
My favourite part of the weekend was when the heavens opened on Saturday during the Jersey Boys performance. It was crazy how hard it rained, but everyone just kept dancing! The crowds seem to be energized and I saw many people discarding their umbrellas and just embracing the rain! I found out later that one woman actually jumped into the fountain! The crowds were loving the performance and ignored the British weather, clearly die-hard theatre fans will not be beaten!
There was a lot of media covering the event but I got chatting to the guys from Stagedoormag. Lovely people and covered the event including some great interviews with the cast. Check them out on their website: http://www.stagedoormag.co.uk/
If you enjoy theatre, I seriously recommend you check out West End Live next year, its free, live and a lot of fun! Here is the website: http://www.westendlive.co.uk/
